Warren Anderson (Paso Robles, Calif.) finished third in the B final of the men's single sculls for a ninth-place finish overall on Saturday at the second stop of the 2009 Rowing World Cup in Munich, Germany.
Anderson battled Norway's Nils Jakob Hoff for second place throughout the entire B final, finishing with a time of 7:30.26. Anderson got off the line in second position before Hoff gained the advantage at the 1,000-meter mark. The American regained second place in the third quarter of the race, but Hoff was able to pull away over the final 500 meters to take second in a 7:27.29. Belarus' Stanislau Shcharbachenia led from start to finish, clocking a 7:24.36 to win the race and finish seventh overall.
Earlier in the day, Anderson finished fifth in his semifinal with a time of 7:16.86. He was never able to mount a challenge for a place in the top three and a spot in the final. Alan Campbell won the race in a 6:59.34, while Czech Republic's Ondrej Synek and Lithuania's Mindaugas Griskonis finished second and third, respectively.
Racing concludes on Sunday with the medal races beginning at 10:30 a.m. local time. More than 550 athletes from 37 nations entered the regatta. Event finals will be video-streamed live on Sunday and can be accessed at www.universalsports.com.
