Alfred Czerner - Olympic Hopeful Denied from Olympics 6/25/2012
A few clips from my interview with rowing legend Alfred Czerner, an Olympic hopeful denied from rowing for Argentina in the 1956 Melbourne Summer Olympics. Since then, Alfred has won over 200 medals from rowing competitions around the world. More info on Alfred's story can be found here: www.utsandiego.com This was the third short in a series of videos I made for my Visual Storytelling Class (FTV 133) at Dodge College, Chapman University. For this video, I had to interview a subject with a interesting story. Logline: The story of a man who was denied competing in the Olympics. Special thanks to Alfred Czerner and the San Diego Rowing Club for helping make this video a reality.

GB National Champs 1980 eights 5/27/2012
1980 National Championships UL eight had won the Thames cup at HRR and then raced in Italy at the Match des Seniors the following weekend, this was their 3rd weekend of racing (and unfortunately it looks it) GB junior eight was going very well and had high hopes for the world juniors, but in the end finished 4th in a blanket finish 0.6 secs down on silver. Interestingly 5 of this crew eventually rowed for UL at some time in the 80's Kingston/Leander were the Worlds 1979 GB 4+ from Kingston and the 1980 Brittania winners at HRR from Leander, including Andy Holmes Thames RC were really a south African eight from Witwatersrand University who had lost the final of the Ladies Plate at HRR to Yale

Moscow Olympics 1980 5/4/2012
This is a film about the Australian Men's 8+, Men's Pair- and Women's 4+ competing at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. It was filmed on Kodak Super 8 film by my father Harvey Nicholson and edited by me to a 2 hour film in 1980, then re-edited by me to a 15 minute version in 2012. It also includes the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and some of the other events like the athletics, swimming and gymnastics. My father was a great person to work with when editing, and we spent a lot of hours, l can tell you.

OULRC 1992 vs CULRC 4/30/2012
In 1992 OULRC broke CULRC'S 13 year winning run. Oxford won by 2 ½ lengths in 5:40. The crew was reasonably experienced (a GB U23, a GB Junior, couple of "home internationals", one US lightweight development squad, various UK National Champs medallists, four previous half blues including an ex OULRC president and an ex CULRC president). Having said that, it wasn't pretty.... Disbanded post-race, but most of the crew got back together for brief crack at Henley (going out by a length to ASR Nereus on the Friday) and National Champs (taking a bronze behind Notts County and London RC). With many thanks to an excellent coaching team and the non-rowing president, Chris Hardy. Last OULRC with Macon (non-cleaver) blades. A piece of ancient rowing history for the archive......

World Championships 1981 A final 2+ 4/4/2012
The Italian Abbagnale brothers (and their excitable cox di-Capua) first appearance at a World Championships Having won the U23 champs (Match des Seniores) the Italians added them to the full Worlds team The GB pair Tom Cadoux-Hudson and Richard Budgett (cox Adrain Ellison) were also a late addition to their team, having similarly won the U23's (rowing for GB in an all UL eight) 1 Italy, 2nd East Germany, 3rd GB, 4th Czechoslovakia, 5th Bulgaria, 6th Russia The Russian pair is a salutary lesson in 2000m pacing :-(

Henley (HRR) 1989 Notts County vs Harvard rerow 4/4/2012
The1989 Ladies Plate final re-row at 8pm on Sunday (after the prize giving) Notts County had won it once but Harvard had something stuck on their fin and lodged an appeal. Notingham, a lightweight crew, led by about a canvas at all the signals but had half a length at the top of the enclosure Stewards Enclosure was open to all and the umpires launch coaches decorum is a little more relaxed than normal (given the situation) Even one of the race recorders is clapping at the end One of the jibes thrown at Henley is that a lot of people who go aren't at all interested in the rowing. Whilst there is truth in this, the sizeable crowd who stayed behind for two hours showed that there's a lot who do enjoy a great race
