2023 Outlook - "I was very excited to take the helm at Stetson last fall. This is my first full year with the team, and with a full coaching staff. The changes that we’ve made to the program seem to be having a positive impact on the culture of the team as well as the physical progress of the athletes. We’ve spent a lot of time this fall talking about who we are, who we are striving to be, and how we can hold each other accountable. There has been a lot of growth in a short period of time.
"We were lucky to escape major damage from the two hurricanes that came through the area, but we weren’t able to row on our home waters for most of the fall semester. We scrambled to find an alternative location, but that cut down on our rowing time dramatically. The upside? We had to spend more time on the ergs and the results of testing put us in a better position this fall compared to last fall. We’re making up for the lost water time by spending more time in four’s, battling against each other.
"The goal this year is to earn the right to race at IRA’s. Last year’s results at Dad Vail, although promising, were not what I needed to see in order to justify making the trip to IRA’s. Stetson is a small team at a small university. Our competitiveness on the water shouldn’t show that. We are working to be in a place where we can line up next to any team in the country and be competitive, even if we can’t field a boat in every event. We have a seasoned group of upperclassmen and were fortunate to grow that group with some very experienced freshmen. If we can stay healthy and hungry, we should be able to make the grand final at Dad Vail in the men’s eight.
"Go Hatters!"
