The U.S. Men's National Team will be relocating its base of operations under the direction of men's head coach Tim McLaren to the U.S. Olympic Training Center - Chula Vista (California) effective March 14, 2011, USRowing announced on Wednesday. The U.S. Women's National Team will continue to train in Princeton, N.J.
During the past two years, the men's program has had training sites in both Princeton and California. The move to California allows the men's team to consolidate its resources to one location and focus on its 12-month, on-the-water training approach. It also allows the team access to the Olympic Training Center's resources on a year-round basis.
The women's team will continue to train in Princeton, taking advantage of the resources and support provided by the Princeton National Rowing Association, Princeton University and the rest of the community that has helped the team to unprecedented success at the international level including five consecutive world titles in the women's eight.
"We understand the impact this decision will have on the athletes currently training in New Jersey and will assist these athletes with the consolidation to Chula Vista," said USRowing CEO Glenn Merry. "As our men's and women's national teams prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games, we want to create the best possible training sites and support programs for our athletes, so that they can achieve their goals and fulfill their dreams in London."
