Jim Joy passed away yesterday, March 23.
Most recently he served as a technical consultant at Hobart and William Smith, where he had served as head coach from 1989-1999; he also coached at UWO, Wesleyan, MIT, Yale, and for the Canadian national team. You can read a short bio on the HWS site here.
But Joy is best known as the creator and driving force behind the Joy of Sculling conferences, which were considered by many to be the best and most technical conferences available.
Jim was one of a kind, and will be missed; we will post more information about services or other memorials as it becomes available.
