In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Head Of The Charles Regatta, the Directors have decided to incorporate the highlights of 1965 racing into the 2014 Regatta. Several changes will be of particular note to the rowing community.
All competitors will be required to compete in vintage 1965 kit. All equipment—shells, oars, and coxswain megaphones—must date from the early 1960s: shells must be wood and oars must be standard pencil blades with leather collars. Coxswains are only permitted to use small megaphones attached to head gear.
Crews launching from FALS and SADL will wet launch, rather than using docks. All vehicles brought onsite must have been made in 1965 or earlier. Priority parking will be given to station wagons with wood accents.
Results will be printed and mailed to participating clubs in the weeks following the Regatta. In keeping with the tradition of the first HOCR, excessive training is strongly discouraged.
The HOCR will be making use of aerial drone aircraft to ensure compliance.
